Hiring activity related to robotics increased by a CAGR of 41% in the power industry since 2020

The global power industry witnessed a 41% rise in compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in new job postings related to robotics since 2020, according to GlobalData's Job Analytics database. New job postings increased by 76% year-on-year in 2021, and by 14% year-on-year in 2022. 

Notably, architecture and engineering occupations jobs accounted for 25% share of the global power industry’s robotics-related new job postings since 2020.  

Architecture and engineering occupations drive robotics-related hiring activity  

Architecture and engineering occupations, with a share of 25%, emerged as the top robotics-related job roles within the power industry since 2020, with new job postings rising by 105% year-on-year in 2021 and by 44% year-on-year in 2022. 

Computer and mathematical occupations came in second with a share of 20%, with new job postings rising by 81% year-on-year in 2021 and by 44% year-on-year in 2022.  

The other prominent robotics roles include management occupations (12% share), and installation, maintenance, and repair occupations (10% share).

The top five companies in the power industry accounted for 51% of hiring activity 

The top five companies, in terms of the number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, since 2020 were Enel, Siemens, Plug Power, Schneider Electric, and Sunrun. Together they accounted for a combined share of 51% of all robotics-related new jobs in the power industry.

Enel posted 995 robotics-related jobs since 2020, followed by Siemens with 823 jobs, and Plug Power with 434 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.  

New job postings by Enel increased by 311% year-on-year in 2021 and decreased by 6% year-on-year in 2022, while those by Siemens increased by 5% in 2021 and decreased by 12% in 2022.  

Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 56% share of total new job postings since 2020 

The largest share of robotics-related new job postings in the power industry since 2020 was in the US with 56%, followed by Chile (5%) and India (5%). The share represented by the US increased by three percentage points from 53% in 2021 to 56% in 2022.
