Welcome to this edition of Future Power Technology. 

This issue looks at the elemental drivers in the energy transition. While hydrogen offers a solution to energy storage, ammonia offers a more convenient means of power transport. But the ammonia supply chain already exists, so how is the fertiliser industry moving into power? 

Recent innovations have shown how building cement can become a supercapacitor, enabling building to store their own power. This is only one form of “alternative power storage” offering meaningful advantages over battery farms, and we take a look at some of the challengers.
