Duke Energy to procure up to 11 GE Vernova natural gas turbines
GE Vernova has agreed to supply Duke Energy with up to 11 US-produced 7HA natural gas turbines. The collaboration is intended to address growing electricity demand from the manufacturing sector, digital infrastructure and population expansion. The deal supports GE Vernova’s earlier decision to scale up its facility in Greenville, South Carolina. This upgrade forms part of a broader $600m US manufacturing investment plan, nearly $300m of which is directed to GE Vernova’s Gas Power operations.
Spearmint Energy secures $250m for two battery storage projects in Texas
Spearmint Energy has successfully closed financing of more than $250m for two battery energy storage systems in the US state of Texas. The projects, Tierra Seca and Seven Flags, each have a capacity of 100MW/200MWh and are currently under construction in Del Rio and Laredo, respectively. The MA Mortenson Company is handling the construction of both projects.
Gilkes Energy gains planning consent for Earba storage project in Scotland
Gilkes Energy has received Section 36 planning consent from the Scottish government’s Energy Consents Unit for its Earba storage project, a pumped storage hydro (PSH) initiative at Loch Earba. With an installed capacity of 1.8GW and a storage capacity of 40GWh, it will become the largest PSH project in the UK, capable of delivering 22 hours of storage at full power.
Hexium raises $12m for enriched lithium production in nuclear sector
Hexium has raised $12m in funding to advance atomic vapour laser isotope separation (AVLIS) technology. The company aims to establish US leadership in isotope enrichment by leveraging AVLIS technology, initially backed by a $2bn US Department of Energy investment, to address isotope production bottlenecks.
