Hiring activity related to cloud increased by a CAGR of 53% in the power industry since 2020

The global power industry witnessed a 53% rise in compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in new job postings related to cloud since 2020, according to GlobalData's Job Analytics database. New job postings increased by 87% year-on-year in 2021, and by 24% year-on-year in 2022.  

Notably, computer and mathematical occupations jobs accounted for a 57% share of the global power industry’s cloud-related new job postings since 2020.

Computer and mathematical occupations drive cloud-related hiring activity

Computer and mathematical occupations, with a share of 57%, emerged as the top cloud-related job roles within the power industry since 2020, with new job postings rising by 120% year-on-year in 2021 and rising by 43% year-on-year in 2022.  

Management occupations came in second with a share of 14%, with new job postings rising by 105% year-on-year in 2021 and rising by 56% year-on-year in 2022.  

The other prominent cloud roles include architecture and engineering occupations with a 7% share, business and financial operations occupations with a 6% share and office and administrative support occupations with a 3% share.

The top five companies in the power industry accounted for 40% of hiring activity

The top five companies, in terms of the number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, since 2020 were Siemens, Schneider Electric, VINCI Energies, NextEra Energy and Enel. Together they accounted for a combined share of 40% of all cloud-related new jobs in the power industry.  

Siemens posted 6,115 cloud-related jobs since 2020, followed by Schneider Electric with 2,606 jobs and VINCI Energies with 2,155 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.  

New job postings by Siemens increased by 33% year-on-year in 2021 and rose by 15% year-on-year in 2022, while those by Schneider Electric increased by 346% in 2021 and rose by 13% in 2022.

Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 45% share of total new job postings since 2020

The largest share of cloud-related new job postings in the power industry since 2020 was in the US with 45%, followed by India (9%) and Germany (8%). The share represented by the US increased by one percentage point from 45% in 2021 to 46% in 2022.
