GE Vernova to acquire Woodward’s gas turbine parts business in US
GE Vernova has agreed to purchase the heavy-duty gas turbine combustion parts business of Woodward, located in Greenville, South Carolina, US. GE Vernova will acquire all assets associated with Woodward’s Greenville site, which is primarily engaged in supplying parts and services to GE Vernova’s gas turbine manufacturing operations. The move is a strategic effort by GE Vernova to bolster US manufacturing and strengthen its domestic supply chain. The acquisition is set to be finalised in early 2025.
US FERC rejects Amazon-Talen nuclear power agreement
The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has rejected an amended interconnection service agreement proposing to increase the load capacity of Amazon’s data centre from 300MW to 480MW at the Susquehanna nuclear facility in Pennsylvania. FERC was concerned with that the move could lead to higher power bills for the public and affect the grid’s stability.
EDF in talks with providers to power 1GW data centres in France
EDF is in discussions with three providers to source power for their 1GW data centre projects in France, highlighting the potential of nuclear power as a clean energy source to meet the increasing demand of data centres fuelled by the AI boom. The search for appropriate sites is still underway, and the names of the companies involved have not been disclosed.
TVA secures ten-year PPA for 377MW hydroelectric power
Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has signed a ten-year PPA with Argo and Brookfield to procure 377MW hydro power from Smoky Mountain Hydro facilities comprising the Cheoah, Calderwood, Chilhowee, and Santeetlah dams. Set to commence power delivery from 2025, Smoky Mountain Hydro will supply TVA’s customers with 14GWh of carbon-free energy over the following decade.
