KHNP selected to build Czech nuclear power plant

Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) has been selected by the Czech Government to build two nuclear reactors in the country, marking South Korea’s first overseas order for a large-scale nuclear power project since its development in the United Arab Emirates in 2009. KHNP out competed its French rival EDF as it proved superior in meeting project deadlines and keeping costs within budget. The Czech Government estimates that the cost of the project will be Kč200bn ($8.65bn).

DOE approves $12.6bn hydrogen hub in California

The US Department of Energy (DOE) has announced the signing of a landmark $12.6bn agreement for the construction of a hydrogen hub in California. Last October, the Biden administration selected seven hydrogen hubs across 16 states to receive funding. The ARCHES hub in California is the first of the selected hubs to officially sign its agreement with the DOE.

Hitachi Energy to invest $87m in transformer production in Spain

Hitachi Energy has committed €80m ($87m) to enhance its transformer manufacturing operations in Spain. The investment, part of a larger $1.5bn initiative to increase global transformer production capacity, will enlarge the Cordoba transformer facility to more than 32,000m² as well as optimise and extend the facility’s capabilities, including the production of shunt reactors.

Avangrid sells Kitty Hawk North offshore wind lease to Dominion

Avangrid has agreed to sell its Kitty Hawk North offshore wind lease to Dominion Energy‘s subsidiary Virginia Electric and Power Company. The $160m transaction includes the lease area of 40,000 acres and associated assets. The lease, known as CVOW-South, will support 800MW offshore wind generation capacity by the 2030s and is expected to power 200,000 homes and businesses.
