Condux Tesmec- The Next Generation of Stringing Equipment

/  For the Transmission and Distribution Industry  /

CONDUX TESMEC, INC., MANKATO, MINN., OFFERS THE MOST ADVANCED AND COMPREHENSIVE LINE OF STRINGING EQUIPMENT IN THE WORLD. THE CONDUX TESMEC LINE OF HYDRAULIC PULLERS, TENSIONERS, PULLER-TENSIONERS AND STRINGING BLOCKS REPRESENTS THE SAFEST AND MOST RELIABLE EQUIPMENT IN THE POWER TRANSMISSION AND DISTRIBUTION INDUSTRY.

The Condux Tesmec line of pullers, tensioners and puller-tensioners allows utilities and utility contractors to improve productivity and efficiency while limiting downtime and improving jobsite safety. Condux Tesmec pullers, tensioners and puller-tensioners have the ability to interface and work together through passive and active electronic controls. Multiple pullers and puller-tensioners can be linked together and controlled from a centralized location. One person can operate the puller, tensioner or puller-tensioner, plus reel winder or stand from the control panel. Depending on the specific unit, up to four reel winders can be controlled independently.

Using independent pullers, tensioners, and puller-tensioners allows for the installation of multiple phases simultaneously; up to 3-phases and a ground is possible at the same time. Hydraulically controlled systems allow Condux Tesmec equipment to eliminate conductor galloping, providing utility contractors maximum pulling control.

Overhead Stringing & Tensioning

The Condux Tesmec stringing line is state-of-the-art in the transmission and distribution industry, replacing old equipment designs dating back 20 to 35 years or more. The dual speed mode of most Condux Tesmec equipment provides cable safety by providing different installation speeds and low and high forces, while precisely monitoring, charting and controlling the installation. Electronic controls eliminate galloping and allow smooth installation at all speeds. This provides maximum safety, especially when pulling over energized lines.

The PT1250 puller-tensioner is one of the latest additions to the Condux Tesmec line. The PT1250 offers 11,240 lbf (50 kN) of pulling or tensioning capacity and is designed for stringing one rope or one conductor. The bull-wheel grooves on the PT1250 are made from high resistance interchangeable nylon sectors. The PT1250 features a new digital interface with automatic power management and full safety controls. A negative-brake maintains line tension in the event the pull is stopped or power/hydraulic pressure is lost. No operator action is required to initiate this feature.

Underground Pulling

In addition to overhead string applications, Condux Tesmec offers a range of hydraulic pullers specifically designed for underground pulling applications such as the ARS610. The ARS610 is ideal for a wide range of underground pulling applications including power transmission and distribution cable installation, telecom and fiber.

With over 10 tons (100 kN) of pulling force, the ARS610 incorporates industry-leading features like a negative self-acting hydraulic brake, an integrated hydraulic dynamometer, a hydraulic cooling system, advanced user controls and more.

A standard electronic pull and speed monitor and recorder kit provides users real time data on pulling operations. Bull-wheel grooves on the ARS610 are made from heat-treated steel. While the trailer-mounted unit is standard, an integrated self-propelled track system option is available for easy jobsite positioning.

Helicopter Blocks

Condux Tesmec also offers a comprehensive line of equipment accessories that add safety and productivity to every job. Condux Tesmec 2-3 bundled conductor helicopter blocks are available in 28- and 36-inch diameters. With a workload rating of 12,000 lbs, the Condux Tesmec 2-3 bundled conductor helicopter blocks are load tested to 60,000 lbs providing a 5:1 safety factor.

The one-piece cast aluminum frame is manufactured from aircraft-grade heat-treated aluminum (A356.01-T6). That process provides a lightweight and high strength design. The unit is over 25% lighter, yet stronger and less likely to break compared to aluminum blocks with welded extruded frames. The blocks also feature sealed bearings that keep dirt, dust, water and other contaminants out of the block’s inner workings.

The unit’s specially designed counter-weight fly-in gate allows for quicker and more secure rope installs, featuring a unique hinge for safer and more efficient cable removal during clipping operation. The fingers in the gate are bi-directional, which allows the headboard to come through from either direction no matter how the block is mounted.

Condux Tesmec 2-3 bundle helicopter blocks also offer field-replaceable nylon or polyurethane sectors, allowing for damaged sectors to be replaced onsite. Nylon sectors are designed for use with standard conductor. V-groove polyurethane sectors work with twisted pair conductor, T2® or VR2®. With twisted pair conductor, the profile of the sector needs to support the conveyance of the conductor through the sheave. So the groove radius is important, as is the profile width and the softer polyurethane material. In addition, sectors come in alternating colors, providing contractors with a clear view of them rotating during conductor installation.
