From ship unloading to boiler section: Valmont SM brings power plants into the future

Valmont SM designed, manufactured and installed a 1.5 km conveying system to Skærbæk Power Plant.

A complete custom designed conveying system built and installed at Skærbæk Power plant for transporting wood chips from receiving it by ship unloaders to the boiler section. Developed, produced and installed by Valmont SM, Denmark.

Valmont SM has for decades specialized in power plants and delivered a numerous of transport systems for coal and transferring their knowledge within this area for the conversion into biomass fired power plants.

The delivered conveying system includes movable unloading hoppers with dedusting operating on rails along the wharf for flexible ship unloading of material.

Successful transformation from coal to biofuel

After unloading the wood chips, the system is equipped with magnetic separation for removal of eventual foreign metal pieces, screening where oversized lumps is removed, and a sampler in order to determine process numbers and moisture for an optimum burn ability process.

The material is after screening transported to an 80,000 m3 open A-storage via belt conveyors from where extraction to be day silos is handled via screw reclaimers from the A-storage bottom.

- We made a complete fuel handling system – from idea to finished solution - for the power plant in Skærbæk. Bringing it into the future with the conversion from coal to biofuel, said Anders G. Kjærgaard, Sales & Project Director at Valmont SM.

40 years of experience in the power plant industry

Valmont SM is in cooperation with the customer specifying the required capacities the system shall be able to handle, which type of equipment is necessary, what is the room available for items and buildings at the location, and then Valmont SM submit a solution based on customer specification and demand.

- We designed, manufactured and installed a 1.5 km conveying system to Skærbæk.

Our competence is to provide a co-engineered solution to the end user. We were able to do this as we have more than 40 years of experience in the power plant industry, states Anders G. Kjærgaard, Valmont SM.

Beside the technical specifications for such system, the customers also expect a user-friendly operation and maintenance of the system.
